Weiser Knoll Fire
Firefighters are making significant progress on the Weiser Knoll Fire, located 13 miles southeast of Lander, Wyoming. The cause of the fire remains under investigation and no further information about the cause will be available until the investigation concludes. The Weiser Knoll Fire was reported on the afternoon of Aug. 9, 2026, at approximately 2:15 p.m, the fire spread rapidly through grass and sagebrush fuels under severe red flag conditions and strong wind gusts. Initial response was led by U.S. Wildland Fire Service, local cooperators and other federal agencies who worked together to aggressively to protect life, property, and natural and cultural resources. As the fire escalated, additional federal wildland crews, heavy equipment, and aviation resources were assigned to continue suppression operations. Supported by recent favorable weather, firefighters have been successful halting the fire's forward progress and establishing solid control lines bringing the containment to 95%. The perimeter of the fire was updated using detailed satellite imagery, and fire size has been changed to 15,817 acres.
